There are many types of classic car shows form large ones like the NEC and Tatton Park through national and club days to the smallest ones often linked with a school or village fete. Usually these are well organised but recently I have hit problems twice as I wanted to confirm details before posting. When I enquired about one at the location it was to be held at I was told they did not have details available but to ring in the week. I rang a number of times and the phone was never answered. Twice it went to an answering machine but my call was not returned! I have no idea if the event went ahead or not. Another one I e-mailed the person on the flyer and got an auto-response to say they were away but gave an alternative contact. Many of you will have guessed by now – the alternative contact was also away! Many of these events raise money for various charities but if you want people to bring their classics you have to be contactable and put the effort in. Unless I am 100% I would never post any event details.
Sorry had to have a rant after the two people in a row were away!

Hi Jimmy, you should contact Bill George (Chairman and South-East Events) at this stage to update him of your plans and OK everything. I have also PM’d you.
Whilst an interesting development my rant was actually about people organising events and then not being available!

Hi everyone, Bill George here, I was told about this section by some members as its annoyed them, and rightly so. Let me make it clear, the mk3 club has NEVER EVER been banned from Enfield or any other show. We get invited to hundreds of show thru the year and Len puts what he can in the newsletter, if any members want to go then great, the mk3 club can't be held responsible for the organisers of these shows who ignore messages or emails. Getting back to Enfield, there are several reasons why we stopped going, firstly, if you were a large club or a dealership then they bent over backwards for them, but the smaller clubs were treated as second class, one year we went and the field had been mown, all except an area where us and 4-5 other clubs were, the grass was about 2 feet high, I went to the "organisers" tent to complain but absolutely nothing was done, in the end one of our members went home and came back with a lawn mower. Another time we turned up and our plot was number 42, but whoever marked the plots out was lost after 41, the next one was 49!!!! Again I went to to moan about it but was told us and some other clubs were right at the back behind the ex army vehicles. The show guides map of the field was also useless as it was printed as the field should have been. And as regards not getting a reply from the organisers, I have left hundreds of messages on the white webs phone, but never had the courtacy of a reply. The Enfield show used to be the highlight of the year, but it ran its course years ago, maybe there are new people running it now, but personally I've heard nothing to change my mind. I've known v8roy for years, and I'm surprised at his comments, please Roy, get your facts right.

Thanks for clearing that up, Bill. I must say I was surprised to hear that we had been "banned" from Enfield but my memory ain't what it used to be. I do remember a club stand there in the 80s, and it was a good show back then, but I haven't been for ages. If some club members do get together for a display there, I am sure Len would appreciate a write-up for the newsletter, and some new photos for the website would be nice .

Hi, as the thread has gone on somewhat of a tangent I just wanted to make it clear that there was no criticism intended, or otherwise, of any events attended by the Mk III ZZOC Club. My criticism was purely of people arranging smaller events (typically 30 – 100 cars), advertising and then not being contactable. In the nineties I attend many such events and communication was never an issue, and yet in this age of almost instantaneous communication there seem to be problems! I first noticed this a couple of years ago and again last year. When in happened twice in the space of a few weeks recently I got annoyed and had my rant.
All these are events where people attend on an individual basis. If the club’s name is being used you should a) be a bone fide member and b) speak with a committee member before doing anything.
