Am fitting p5 rover V8 engine with auto box in my 1965 Zodiac. Does anyone have any ideas on sump and exhaust manifold modification needed? I am having some problems.

Are you using standard steering set up or is it converted to a rack.. is the deep part of your sump at the rear or is it central.

I'm using standard steering and a middle sump.

you'll need to cut n shut the sump for a front well. luckily the oil pump is at the front so re making the pickup pipe to suit is pretty easy..

Before you start have a look at a ford 302 v8 its narrower and fits straight in PLUS its FORD , the bw box is wide mk3 with an auto have a wider tunnel but a ford c4 fits with no mods

302 was first choice but funds are tight. sump and pick up pipe are sorted engine and gearbox mounts are on the way. exhaust manifold very tight have sauced range rover headers so hopefully can modify to fit. thanks for help so far any suggestions more than welcome Reg

302 is dearer to buy but much cheaper when its rebuild time down the road. rovers are very expensive in comparison and make stock 302 power when tuned. hopefully you won't have to find out.

I know where you are coming from but in standard form the old dog is not badly priced. And the most important thing to me is it sounds like a V8. but should a 302 and C4 come along at the right price its never too late !

Does the rover v8 mount up to the zephyr gearbox?

If your car has a bw 35 box you can change bellhousing for the rover hope this helps

Have to assume the Rover V8 runs lovely in it?

Yes I was thinking that, Reg lives quite near me and I bought his old six cylinder engine from him. He finished the car and I have seen it running, and he made a great job of it.
