Hi, I would like to fit power steering to my Mk3 Zodiac. I believe it is quite common to use a Vauxhall Corsa steering column. Has anyone carried out a power steering conversion on a Mk3 using as many original Mk3 parts as possible? And if so does anyone have any advice on how to do it?
Thanks in advance, Johnny.

About 35 years ago I saw a Zodiac that had been fitted with power steering from an Austin of some kind, maybe a Westminster or a 3-litre?
There was a company at the NEC show that will fit electronic power steering to any classic car, but I don't think there was a DIY option.

I would say the best way to do it (if you can get the parts) would be to use the parts from MK4 Zodiac which had PAS as an option. This had a power ram on the steering and not on the column, saving stress on the steering box attachment which is a weak point on mk3s.. I would imagine that any vehicle with steering box rather than rack and pinion would be the place to start...

Have a look on U tube there is some very interesting clips, one using a Toyota Prius electric motor which doesn't need the Toyota computer to make it work,it shows cutting the steering shaft and joining the motor in half way up,very clever, but using your original steering box which may need to be braced to stop the lugs breaking of the mounts.
