Like many here I rent a lockup or two. I have just had a request to provide ID for one I have rented for over 20 years. This is the third time in two weeks I have had a request like this. Whilst I somewhat understand it for the NHS App the others seem intrusive to me. With the garage I have paid regularly each quarter and corresponded by letter, email and phone so they know it is Michael H. In these days of identity theft I dislike all and sundry having copies of my driving licence, passport, bills, etc.
Anybody else had similar requests and do you think this sort of thing is going OTT?

It will be to do with organised crime etc. People using lockups to hide stolen goods, drugs and in some cases vulnerable people...its a sign of the times...

I rent 2 lock-ups in Liverpool, one for over 21 years on the same site. The landlord has changed on a number of occasions and I have never been asked to provide any i.d. and I have never had an issue in all that time on the site. If any request for photo i.d. comes my way then I will try and ask questions why, I'm really tight on my personal details being given out. Joe makes the very valid reasons why things are changing, I'll wait and see if plod or whoever gets in touch.

Hi, Beware defaulting to 'Its a sign of the times' scenario and 'if you have got nothing to hide ,you have nothing to lose or worry about' on the contrary, if you have nothing to hide you have everything to lose, remember that. People or organisations that request personal data, have to have a valid reason for requesting it and a duty of care to keep it safe, so ask them why they want it, what they will do with it and how they will look after it, also what sanctions are open to you to pursue them legally and financially should your data be stolen or misused, depending how they respond to this valid request, make up your own mind whether you want to continue with that company or individual. Basically if someone dodgy is storing some elicit stuff at a lockup ,they will be well capable of obtaining a fake id (maybe yours) If the is doubt, there is no doubt. CD
