Hi just wondering if anyone has advice on a full brake upgrade. I am running a V8 so the brakes just don't have what they need to be safe. I want to upgrade but cost effectively. Discs all round maybe?

Hi Peter I've moved this thread to Modied as it will make it easier to find later on. There is a company in New Zeland or Austrailia that does a kit to convert the front brakes to ventilated discs from a Falcon. Also you could look into what the Capri boys do as (I think) that the Capri discs and hubs fit on the Zephyr struts. Beware of changing the struts and rear axle as that will take you outside of the 8 points rule.

I am unsure I have nothing to compare it to. It does look like it is the original though.

If it's a stock axle you can use merc rear disc,,remove half shaft and all brake shoes, wheel cylinders etc,,cut the back plate down so only the bit behind retaining plate is left,,put shaft back in,,place merc disc over the studs and bolt down using the wheel nuts,,use mk3 Granada or Sierra rear calipers,,temporarily fit the hydraulic lines to the calipers,,place calipers over disc making sure the bleed nipple is uppermost,, clamp to disc using brake pressure,,make up a plate between axle tube and calipers using quarter plate steel,,if you can't weld the plate in place safely get someone who is very competent to do it,,,,,get handbrake cables sorted and your done,,,on front use Capri disc ,,,,,,,the standard brakes should be adequate for a mild v8 so I would sort out any problems you have there first,,,,with the conversion you will be changing master cyl and servo too,,,might be worth changing the stock master etc for a Capri master and servo,,,if you need to talk pm me and I will send my number over

Thanks zephyr. That is really useful stuff. I think that it is stock so may go with your advice. I do think I will make it a winter job as I need to repair an oil seal on the axle and understand that they are fitted inboard so I will strip it and do it all at the same time.
