When I was visiting the lockup the other day I sadly concluded that is was unlikely that I could ever drive my Zodiac regularly with the current transmission set up because of the weakness in my left leg. There seem to be two options either servo assisted clutch operation or conversation to automatic transmission.
Because of the relative flexibility of the engine my first choice is to go with an assisted clutch set up. Has anyone done this and what parts did you use? My only concern is that you could lose 'feel' making it awkward to drive.
If I decided to go automatic is it an easy conversion as I would have to pay someone to do it for me? Also would it be best to use an original auto box (might be tricky to source) or might it be possible to go for mre modern alternatives with four(+) gears and lockup to aid economy?
Thanks in anticipation of replies...

A couple of years ago a load of new old stock auto boxes came up for sale, so some of those must be out there somewhere...

If I remember correctly the auto version of the car has a larger transmission tunnel, also you would have to sort out the shift lever mechanism. That would be the hardest part, I don't know how you would change the clutch to power assisted although I'm sure you could fit a servo to the clutch using a remote servo the same as the early cars had. Or; you could use possibly convert the car to auto using another BW gearbox with floor change shifter

I knew a chap that converted his MGB to a servo assisted clutch system,he and the car are now no longer around!!. Thinking about it , its just a plumbing job, don't go to to much expense at this stage, a second hand remote brake servo, some brake piping to connect it all and some piping and a T piece to tap into the brake servo vacuum line, this just to prove the concept,it should reduce the clutch pedal effort and I think you would soon learn to get used to the different feel.Remember all the servo is doing, is using engine vacuum to reduce the effort on the output side of the master cylinder Would be an interesting project. I know you are attached to your car but if you require an auto ,it might be better to source one and rebuild that. I recon the servo mod on the clutch system would work. D
