Classics in the Walled Garden is an evening picnic for classic car and bike owners within and around the historic Walled Garden on the Luton Hoo Estate. It is one of the few events I attend regularly these days (both as an exhibitor and a spectator). This year it is being held on Wednesday 2nd July from 4:00 p.m. till around dusk. You can pre-book or just turn up on the night. The link is www.petermadden.co.uk/index.phpThe Z car range has always been represented and it would be great if a selection of Mk IIIs could make it. One of the things besides the cars that make it enjoyable is that the qualirtty of the hot dogs and burgers are far better than the usual offerings and you can but a decent pint of ale or a Pimms for the good lady. Hope to see you there.

Only a few days to go. If you don't prebook you will probably get in on the night as there is plenty of space...

Yesterday was a prefect summer’s evening. There were around 500 cars there but sadly not one Mk III. In fact the Mk I – IV Consul/Zephyr/Zodiac range was totally under represented. I only saw one – a Mk II Consul all evening. Apologies if you were there and I missed you. With the cars in three areas combined with late arrivals and early departures I imagine I missed a few cars. There was a large variety of cars including a RHD Delorean and about a dozen Ferraris (I tend to favour the older models). BMC were well represented from the Austin 7 through to a rally spec Allegro – my favourite of these was a Wolsey 15/60. Other notable cars were a Mk 9 Jaguar, a Jaguar 2.5 litre, a Vauxhall Viscount, quite a few VW campervans (the girlfriend wants me to get one) and a beautiful V8 Allard. When I know the date of next year’s event I will post it up. It would be great if club members could display the Mk III set!

Sadly only a couple of a VW "flower power" camper and a radical Beetle that I took for my niece who is a big fan of them. They are on my phone at the moment and I gave up taking pictures because of the going into re-boot issue I have mentioned elsewhere. Although I got new batteries for my digital camera there seems to be an issue with it as well! I was much happier years ago when I used 35mm film in my Canon AE-1...
