Hi All, Just wondering if anyone has ever come accross this situation??.... Today i returned home to find a letter from DVLA, asking for the chassis number from my both my zodi and my mot certificate as well as the way the chassis number appears on my log book. she was mot'd a week or so ago and the lad at the mot station had trouble finding the car on the data base, the chassis number on the car starts with a 'Z' and ends in a 'C' with the obvious numbers inbetween.... now on the log book, the chassis number starts with a '2' and doesn't have a 'c' at the end.... Its obvious that when i first got the car back on the road the mot was done using the chassis number from the log book, this time the mot had expired and he tried to mot the car using the reg number/chassis number... (and couldnt find it on the data base) Which then highlited the error. Now im worrying are they going to want to inspect the car? (Not that i'v got anything to hide, she is as i bought her!!.) Or worse, saying its not the same chassis number as originally given to the car, the reg is the same on the mot as it is on the logbook, 740 DBY. Could it just be a typing error thats never been picked up (Untill now) Or something more serious??... Thanks in advance!. Shane...

Hiya mate I had the same problem with mine after 30yrs off the road and not having been sorned declared as just never gave it a thought when all the laws changed anyway after a nightmare of getting it onto the database for mot I then went to tax it and they refused it as numbers didn't match in the end I had to take the car to my nearest dvla centre which was garratts green Birmingham and although they didn't inspect the car it just had to be there invade they wished to , they then issuede a tax disc there and then , the stupid part about it all is over the next few weeks we received another 4 log books all with a slip saying had to send it back with the correct chassis number

Thanks for that, My car has had an mot for the last 3 years (untill it expired in june this year), it had been off the road (Not sorned etc) for 24 years prior to that! It's taxed, "Tested" and insured... but in the letter from DVLA they say that the mot is not recognised by their computer and may result in problems obtaining a tax disk. Im just worried that the chassis number on the car doesn't "exactly" match the one on the log book.. Due to a 'Z' being mistaken for a '2' I cant help feeling there "May be trouble ahead!" Lol.... Hopefully its an easy mistake and can be rectified easily... I will let you know how things go!. Thanks, Shane.

Don't worry if you do have any trouble then just go to your nearest dvla centre and I can assure you they will sort it out within 5 mins

Before it is closed by Government cuts... I had a similar thing with my Triumph. It seems that the MoT tester entered the chassis number incorrectly into the computer so it didn't match up with the one on the DVLA database. Mind you, when I bought the car 2 years ago the V5C had the chassis number as the engine number and no chassis number at all. It took them 4 attempts before they managed to send me a correct V5C, and then they sent me 2!
