I am sure many members enjoy the occasional drop of the hard stuff but never when driving. At the weekend I helped out with some minor house clearance. There was one of those home bars that older members may remember – formica top, padded front and with an illuminated area under the top surface for glasses. I was told it had not been touched for around five years. Obviously any beer was well past the “best before date” and any opened wine/martini/etc. only fit for anything lurking in the U-bend! Unopened wines and spirits should be OK if they do not taste odd. The one I was wondering about was the opened whiskeys and other spirits. These may have been opened for up to eight years. For my efforts I was given three opened malts. I had a sip of the Laphroaig and it tasted fine, still smokey and peaty. Does anybody know the shelf life of opened whiskeys?

Not to sure so dont sue me if you poisoned but I have always been of the opinion that Spirits especialy good stuff does not have a shelf live whether opened or not. Of couse I could be wrong....

I'll go along with Joe's opinion, after all spirits used to be decanted into tantalus decanters years ago and could be in there for some time before being drunk, I believe that the flavour loses its edge though. Personally I'd just drink it with dry ginger and enjoy!

The Monkey Shoulder tastes OK as well! BTW I was always told the best thing with a malt or a wee dram of water.
