Did anybody else go on Wednesday afternoon/evening? There were rumoured to be 1200 cars there. The show lasts from 2:00 to 9:00, and with a degree of ‘coming and going’ you cannot really see all the cars. I saw a ‘B’ reg Zodiac arriving but never found it to have a look around. It was the only Mk III I saw. There were no Mk IVs (I ran one for three years and it was far better built than the Mk I Consul – Granada style – that followed) and one Mk I – a very nice Zephyr convertible. Mk IIs were better represented with examples of the Consul, Zephyr and Zodiac convertibles – ideal for the sunshine. I also saw saloon versions of the Consul and Zodiac. As an aside did anyone else own a sports moped in their younger days? There were three Yamaha FS1-Es there. I had the Honda equivalent the SS50. These machines could hit 60 mph on a good day although I expect my increased wind resistance would drag that down a bit now.

Hi, I was at the Harpendon show from 2.30 until @ 19.45 with my MK3, what a great day a lot of 'High end' stuff DB5's E-Types and the like, but the Mk111 still got loads of interest. 'Long live the big old Fords'. Keith

My little brother had a FS1E back in the late seventies. He was harping on about it's top speed of 55 (which I dutifully quiried) I ended up following him down the road in my Zodiac and when he got to 55 he had to flash his inicators from side to side. I didn't have the heart to tell him that the 55 on his speedo was the same as 43 on mine.

This brought the sports mopeds to an end in a few years. Having ridden various bikes and scooters I think it got near 60 mph.

My brother had his in 1977 and it would have been a year or two old (pre restriction) . His mate also had one and that was slightly quicker (by about 1mph) but they both had wildly optimistic speedos. I know James May did a speed trial on one and the max they could get out of it with some tweeking was 45.
