Hi.
I am a complete newbie to the world of Zephyrs. I have just bought a 64 Zephyr saloon. I was hoping someone could help me out with advice on fitting 3 point belts to it? As I have 2 kids and its probably the right thing to do.
Any advice or pictures would be hugely appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Brad

Hi and welcome I have never done it (never seen the need) but I believe it is common in Australia an NewZealand (it may even be mandatory) so maybe you can get help from Australian/New Zealand Zephyr owners. I have seen seat belts advertised on ebay for MK3s but you will have to fabricate the mounts your self. Hope this helps

Hi, if my memory serves me correct then earlier cars (I think 1963 and before) did not have the captive nut fixed into the 'B' post to take the top seat belt bolt, this was added I think in early 1964. You would need to pull back the door frame edging and top of pillar trim then peep behind it to see, captive nut is about 6 inches down from roof. I have a very late 1966 Zephyr 6 and that had the front belt mounting points factory fitted, for the three point belt the other fixing points are in the inner sill and on the floor by the transmission tunnel. No provision was included to fit rear belts, you would have to possibly get professional advice on how and where to fit the mounting points for the rears. I have some mounting plates and ring bolts, if I can find them I will post pics!

I think it was 65 onwards when the seat belt mounts were fitted. And the fitting of seat belts became mandatory a year or so later. If I remember correctly if a car had the mounts then belts had to be retrofitted. I have had half a dozen 64 Mk3s and one 65 and only the 65 had seat belts. I agree if you want to fit them to an earlier car or in the back then new mounts would have to be made. Maybe a good idea to look at the BIVA regs to see the correct specs (and of course you would have to notify your insurance company about the modification.
