Just noticed a red 1963 Zephyr 4 for sale at Ace Classics, only an opinion but, whilst it looks quite good I couldn't help noticing it's got a later front end on it and the radiator panel isn't right. Something not quite right I suspect?? And for 13 grand.....

I am surprised that one picture shows what appears to be primer on the front part of the N/S inner wing. This seems to continue onto the radiator panel but the resolution is not to good on my dumb phone. The asking price does seem high for a 4 but at that price I would have thought they would have tidied up this area before advertising.

They have also painted over the bonnet rubbers, bonnet opening mechanism, courtesy light switches etc. Horn is upside down and plenum drain cover tube missing. If they are this careless, what is the mechanical restoration like? Interior is non-standard too. Definitely over-priced in my opinion.

Seems like I've stirred up a hornets nest!!! But in all honesty because I'm an old git with a tad of experience I didn't want to see someone who may be a bit younger shall we say "get taken in" as the way I see things some sellers are not necessarily genyed up with some of the tell tale things hence they may be trying to sell this one in good faith but without the proper knowledge... now I've said my bit....I'll go back under my dust sheet!!! Cheers for now, Col.

One other thing I noticed was the radiator does not have the Z4 correct radiator sides on - it has extended bolts holding the rad in position (seen the pics via it's ebay listing)! Heaven knows what the stability of the cooling system set-up is like, echo other comments that it is not worth anything like the dosh they're asking - would be lucky getting half that! Rant over

It is on Ebay with more photos. On my dumbphone (small screen) part of the underside looks a bit untidy or am I deceiving myself...

Everybody has an opinion and they are all valid If you put an item on a selling website then you have to accept all reasonable comments positive or negative. Somebodies idea of 'immaculate' might not be shared by others. Personally I prefer a rusty untouched car to work with than a 'restored' example. Case in point my last Zodiac, it looked ok ,it had a full mot, it had been definitely 'got at' the more I got into it the more expert bodges I found, became very clear very quickly that the car was dangerous and should not have had a valid mot,so I thought I would strip it down and work though it and hopefully end up with something worth wile, everything I touched or disassembled the 'bodger' had been there before me, repair panels stuck on with glue and welds recreated with filler and sprayed over (why ?) and non standard unsuitable bolts ( good ol B&Q) every ware, anyway eventually gave up on the thing, declared it a POS and closed the garage doors on it, I don't normally give up on things but this one was special and moved on to other things, hoping for inspiration to arrive, it did eventually, to sell the thing, put it back together, put it in a well known classic newspaper ,were it sold ( unseen) for my asking price to a dealer, over the coming weeks and months it appeared on a well known auction site several times, always for more money and it always sold. I hope it is happy with somebody who knows what they bought? My personal dislike is overspray on items ,thats sets off alarm bells for me, its a sign of the standard the car has been maintained repaired too, depending on the car and price its a 'walk way ' moment but definately look much closer if I don't. Nearly two months on and still for sale. I wonder when it will dawn on them that it is too expensive...
