My name is Les and I have just acquired a 1963 Zephyr 4, reg. BMC575A, which I believe is known to the club. I am interested in where I should look or go to get the usual maintenance items, such as oil filters, plugs, points etc.

Hi Les and welcom Depends where in the country you are, oil filters are now a bit thin on the ground and a lot of people convert to the cartridge type (I haven't yet but probably will on the next oil change) Other stuff like plugs and points are availiable but watch out for the cheap eBay reproduction stuff which is not very good. There are several classic spares places around and I use John Blythe up in Norfolk. Stuart Flett is down in Surrey somwhere and has a good reputation. If you join the club they can also source some (but not all) parts.

I have filled in the club membership form and will post it tomorrow with the required cheque.
I am in Godalming, Surrey, so will try to look up Stuart Flett

That's a VERY nice mk3 Z4, used to belong to a club member and in fact I nearly bought it myself a couple of years ago but didn't quite have enough Wonga, I'm sure you'll have years of pleasure with it as is as good as you can get....Col.

Thanks Dan & Colin The Mk3 Z4 goes very nicely with our other family Fords, Daughter 105e Anglia & Son in Law Mk3 Cortina 1600 GT. The 100e was mine, but was traded in against the Zephyr 4

Your cars brought back some memories. My first car was a 100E in exactly the same colour. Sadly I never got to drive it on the road as by the time I passed my test I concluded it was too rotten and had numerous other issues, and went out and brought a Morris Oxford (grey with red leather). My mother's second Anglia was the same colour as the one in the picture. She brought it when a 1300 Countryman had to be scrapped because of severe rot at six years of age. The previous owner had had an exchange engine and gearbox fitted. Whilst the gearbox was all syncro it felt sluggish for a 1200. It turned out that the exchange engine was a 997! The car trade doesn't change!
