Well we weren't expecting that!*? Like Brexit the pollsters were totally wrong - so why pay them when a lady with a crystal ball may be more accurate. What I found beyond belief is that the largest most powerful country in the world could end up with a choice between two of the most unsuitable candidates (Donald Duck might have been a better choice)! The only slight positive I can potentially see is that he is against the low interest rate policy. Having seen a small savings account recently have its interest rate slashed from 0.25% -> 0.1% -> 0.01% whilst credit cards charge 20 - 35% and many loans (non-mortgage) are over 10% makes me think that it only a policy to benefit banks! Vote (Very) Grumpy!!!

My latest gripe is with Essex County Council, they have now introduced restrictions on the type of vehicle that can be used to bring rubissh to the dump/recycle centre. They are now refusing access to "any commercial tyoe vehicles" in effect anything that is not "a car" OK that is not too much of a problem for me as although my daily is a Ford Ranger pickup (banned under the new regs) we also have an Audi hatchback and of course my Zodiac, I also live within walking distance so I can also use a wheel barrow. But my point is WTF should I? The facility is provided by the council so that we as residents can despose of Houshold waste that is over and above what can be taken away by the kerbside collection (dustmen) The council have an obligation to provide these services and seem to use any excuse to try to wheedle out of their responsibilities.

I was going to reply to Joe as we have had this issue in Hertfordshire for years together with reduced opening hours resulting in a marked increase of fly tipping.
However events have overtaken me this morning by the news that Hemel Hempstead’s Hospital Urgent Care is cutting its hours from 24/7 to 8:00 – 22:00 from Friday. For many years my nearest hospital for A&E was St. Albans. The main hospitals in the West Herts Trust are Watford, Hemel and St Albans. Some years ago St. Albans A&E was closed and it now has a Minor Injuries Clinic open from 09:00 – 20:00. When this first happened there was an A&E in Hemel. Subsequently this was reduced to a 24/7 Urgent Care facility with the only A&E being in Watford. All this can result in you being bounced from hospital to hospital due to either lack of facilities or suitably qualified staff. Now the Urgent Care in Hemel is being cut back. This is ridiculous when you consider Hemel has a population of around 100,000 people. The nearest A&E to me is now Luton but after spending over eight hours in A&E with my late mother whilst they dealt with those morons who had ended up there due to alcohol or drugs it is not my first choice. The other option is Stevenage. Throw in the ever increasing population and traffic congestion, and it seems someone has lost the plot!

I dont know how it is in UK but in the Netherlands people also complain about all these cuts. However we still have a lw in place that has to guarantee that any place in the country has to be able to be reached by ambulances within 5 quarters of an hour. But that applies to emergencies for noraml treatments some time we have waiting times mounting upto 3 months before we can get them

I lived the first 25 years of my life in Hemel Hempstead, there used to be two hospitals and that was before the New Town was built. I had many trips to A&E when I was a kid (it was called casualty then) last time I went to A&E it was in 1976 during the heatwave and I was seen by the same Doctor that had last treated me ten years before (and he remembered me and my previous injury)

My girlfriend was born there which is how I know about it. I think the main thing Hemel is famous for is its Magic Roundabout. The first time I went to Hemel was a few weeks after passing my driving test and my main memory was coming to this roundabout the likes of which I had never encountered in my two wheel days or any driving lesson. Many people in Hemel, and the surrounding area, including their MP Mike Penning are up in arms about this but my gut feeling is that the decision will not be reverted as it was made by bean counters and others who do not live in the real world. Wonder if they used the consultants who came up with St Albans disastrous one way system that only lasted months and even suggested building over car parks to address the housing shortage in the area (the need for parking was ignored). The fact they get paid well for this stupidity really annoys me!

That right, I used to live close to St Pauls (on the other side of the old railway bridge) it used to be for maternity and geriatric. I must be a few years older than you as I went on the Magic Roundabout on a driving lesson the second day after it opened. I moved away from Hemel in the early eighties but my brother and sister still live there.

Maybe not! When I was on two wheels I never ventured in the Hemel/Watford direction... Lemsford Cafe was nearer for me than the Busy Bee - nowadays it's the Ace on four wheels... Will PM you as although interesting to us it may not be to the others...

I passed a small Co-op just before 10:00 pm on Xmas Eve going to pick up my girlfriend from her shift at the home and was staggered by the number of customers as usually at that time it looks empty. I went out to get a few bits this morning and was surprised by the gaps on the shelves. Then just to wind me up the self service till said I had an age restricted item. The item was the Farmers Weekly but I can't see anything to make it such. Imagine the stupidity will return over the next few days... Oh and they had Easter Eggs on sale. I find that really sad...

Although I had a great day at Shuttleworth yesterday two things brought out my grumpy side. The first was having to queue for 45 minutes to get in and then another 45 to get a coffee and bite to eat. Knebworth is the same – why can’t these people plan properly for these events?
The other was that I saw cars starting to leave shortly after 1:00. It became a mass exodus after 3:00. These vehicle movements concern me as if there is a serious accident at a show the section of the media that does not like our hobby would have a field day. Surely it is not too much to ask for display cars to be in place by 10:00 or 11:00 and to stay in place to say 4:00?

I think I must be one of the contenders for the Grumpy Cup at Club Day South!
So what is annoying me today. It's people not getting back to me. Two of them relate to goods and services. After a quick initial response two people are not coming back to me. One is a quotation and the other is for clarification. I am also waiting for a hospital appointment. My GP expected me to be seen by now but not even a date yet.

Different grumble today! Many supermarkets do three bottles of real ale for £5. Today I saw three bottles in a cardboard gift pack for Father's Day for £10.95! I hope they are sitting there at Christmas...

Getting right grumpy today. My girlfriend got a tablet with a mobile SIM from her mobile phone company. This was delivered by post on Thursday. After putting in the SIM it would connect to WiFi but not their 4G network. Their helpline suggested taking it to one of their shops so it was up a very busy A1M to Stevenage yesterday. The shop was totally understaffed and after a long wait we saw someone. The conclusion was a faulty SIM but because of an ID/security issue we would have to come back the next day. Again, today it was not fully resolved despite a new SIM and it may have to be posted back! Then after all of this we decided to get a bite to eat (late breakfast) and went to a nearby Harvester. It says that it is open all day from 9:00 am till 11:00 pm. We were informed we were too late for breakfast and too early for lunch. So it was off to a local Costa and another long queue. Grrr…
P.S. Colin, we were on our way to visit my girlfriend's mum and I popped into a discount supermarket to pick up a few things for her. When they asked if I wanted a bag I said I had my own and took out my Waitrose bag-for-life. When I picked it up the side gave way - fortunately nothing damaged. The staff found it so funny they gave me one of theirs for free!
