I don't like Marmite anyway, have a jar in the cupboard that has moved at least twice with us,so it's got to be fifteenth years old at least? Has vintage Marmite got any value? Scared to go near it in case it bites me? On a different trend. Anybody had any probe with replacement brake cylinders, ones I have bought a couple of years ago seem to be suffering internally from a white salt like corrosion deposite,Been playing with corrosion in non ferrous components most of my working life, this stuff looks similar to deposites that were found under toilets in aircraft structures! Original components don't seem to suffer from it makes you wonder what is in the material ,obviously inferior to original spec. I have had a few brake cylinders 'resleeved' in the past,I will be doing this more in future. Dr

I think that it could be electrolytic and exacerbated by poor quality aluminium.

Dr I have this all over my "new" (four years ago) brake master cylinder, I too deal with corrosion in non-ferrous metals (I'm a boat surveyor). I think that it could be electrolytic and exacerbated by poor quality aluminium. So much is poor quality these days! I got a set of replacement tailgate struts for my last car when they became to weak to support the tailgate (they were I believe 17 years ols at the time). The replacements failed after six months! Although I haven't dealt with non-ferrous metals in the work environment I did work with carbon fibre and kevlar composites for the aerospace industry for a number of years. Whilst in a grumpy mood why do many so called parents let their young offspring behave so badly in coffee shops, cafes and restaurants. They seem happy to let then throw food around, make a lot of noise and generally annoy other people. One café owner in the area said there was nothing they could do about it. I don't expect them to - I expect the parents to teach their children good behaviour and good manners, it's their child so their responsibility. One pub around here serves excellent food, and beer, but bans children under 14 and allows well behaved dogs. It's heaven!!! Yet some of the chattering classes complain bitterly on the web including one dog owner who was asked to leave with hs dog.

Couldn't agree more with you Mike, about screaming kids that is, her indoors and myself decided to go for a meal out tother day as a nice treat, so, decided to go to a newly opened "harvester" type of gastro pub attached to a new premier inn, got there, had to queue up to get seated then upon being shown a table I noticed that it was in the middle of the place and surrounded by numerous young families with hoards of noisy, badly behaved kids, feet on the chairs, grub all over the floor and nobody doing the slightest thing toward rectifying the situation, needless to say we looked at each other and with the appropriate nods got up and went before even reading the menu!!! Went down the road to a nice pub that does decent grub although quite expensive, but no kids in sight....great stuff, I seem to remember when I was a littlun my old man and mum only had to look at me and I understood straight away to be quiet, eat your crisps and behave otherwise it was a clip round the ear!!!

There are few things that will stop me going into a pub but one is any sign outside that mentions meal deals or kids (you know the ones "kids eat free" "pensioners special" Etc etc.) Oh and Carvery... That really is the pits Another thing is any mention of Sky Sports or Karaoke.

I seem to remember when I was a littlun my old man and mum only had to look at me and I understood straight away to be quiet, eat your crisps and behave otherwise it was a clip round the ear!!! Likewise! If someone else had told me off I would have got a second telling off from my dad. Generally most parents do not like it if you try to tell their child the error of their ways. About 15 years ago I had pulled up in one of those idyllic villages and noticed two children, about 10 and 12, stoning the ducks on the pond. I told them to stop doing so (not in an angry way or shouting) and the next thing two idiots (their parents) with IQs lower than their waist size were hurling abuse at me and telling me not to tell their children what to do. A few years ago a child of about 5 ran into the back of my bad leg on his scooter between the aisles of a supermarket. I turned around and asked if he was going to day sorry and why was he using a scooter in a supermarket. Then his dad appeared shouting that he was only a child so I said “Well as his father you should be setting a good example shouldn’t you”. My girlfriend said afterwards she thought it was going to end in a fight. The most recent one was in a Harvester when two children, about 4 and 5, were messing about, and cross-contaminating the self serve salad. When I told them that it was food and not a plaything. I again got the “They are only children”. My retort was to suggest she then got them a sandpit to play in. What’s wrong with these parents? My girlfriend's grandchildren (six between thee and seven) generally behave well because they know they will be told off if they do not...

re corrosion ,certainly is intergranular electrolytic corrosion ,effects could be mitigated with a heat treatment process, assuming the material is reasonable quality to start with? to normalise the material after manufacture, obviously to much bother, so always consider resleeving a component if viable. I don't know what is happening with children? I was brought up with the 'seen and not heard method, my kids the same, they knew what was required ,in all things and were the line was 'cross it at your peril',they often did, sanctions were applied, I did what I said. In a generation it seems families must fit around children ,than the other way around, this has caused a bit of a breakdown with one of my daughter in laws brood, son says she brings kids up (pillock)they are undisciplined, ignorant little sh*ts, after a couple of disastrous Christmases and visits, I have told them not to come back till they can behave like normal human beings (My definition) so have not seen them for a while and no plans for future visits,I will not have them here or visit them, wife does keep in contact, I do not want to know. One horrific incident, a while ago , was sitting at a table outside my favourite coffee shop in Worthing, at peace with the world, watching the people go by and looking forward to my coffee and cake. A couple of tables away I noticed a young mum put her baby on the table and start stripping the thing down, she was going to change its nappy, I thought 'surely not' cannot have this, got up to get the coffee shop owner, (I would probably been done for assault) anyway just then a senior women got up and take what that young girl got, she was publicly shamed,as she should be, young mum, unchanged baby, off down the street, table scrubbed by owner, still remember it vividly . dr

I saw that in McDonald's in Wroxham (Norfolk Broads) once, "parent" changing a baby's nappy on a table. I don't know if it is an indictment of McDonald's or Wroxham!

Was in a hospital waiting area and there was a sign asking those who wished to feed or change bony to speak to a member of staff as facilities were available. Too many people think they have rights and therefore do not need to respect others...

I wouldn't have a problem with anyone feeding a baby in a restaurant (feeding and eating is what you do in Restaurants) but toilet functions belong in the toilet (the clue is in the name)

Driving back last night some of the roads had the appearance of a zombie acopalypse! I heard of one older person who was 'trick or treated' 17 times. This US rubbish is now getting silly and is hyped up by supermarkets after ever more profit. About time it was banned. Talking about the US the presidential election now resembles a pathetic soap.

Yep Halloween, an American thing, well the hype is, was about when I was a kid, cannot remember going to anybody's door for sweets, would not have got them, if I did they would have been mugged off me by older kids!! Nov 5th Guy Fawkes night (and proceeding days),now you are talking, thruppeny banger chucked into a phone box would blow the windows out of it, a smaller penny banger dropped into somebodies mail slot , would always provoke a chase, retribution was swift and sharp if you were caught, what happened to 'Bangers' anyway?. Penny for the Guy and collection of all wood and anything that would burn, that was not nailed down, for the bonfire, still buy fireworks to this day, have my collection of huge rockets ready for Saturday. The most worrying thing about the American election is how that pair has got this far. As for breast feeding, don't go there, my advice is to drop it.

Well, as far as I can make out the "lunatics" have been running the asylum for far too long, isn't it about time common sense came back in all walks of life??? Or have we got to put up with all the crap until our dying days??? GRRRR!!!! And then nothing will matter!!! Sadly Colin the jobsworths and idiots continue to bug those that survive you. My father predeceased my mother by over quarter of a century. When I took her to make the funeral arrangements the undertaker (his father ran a Mk III hearse) had to ask the difficult question if she wanted to open the grave for one or two, and she decided two. A few years later she decided that she did not want my sister and myself to have a lot of stress when she passed away and asked me to help her arrange a pre-paid funeral. She only came to the first meeting to ensure she got the type of funeral, with the music, she wanted. After that I dealt with everything including the payment. She then transferred the monies to me. At the time she was living in council sheltered housing and it was queried why her savings had gone down. She explained and yet I had to prove I had arranged the pre-paid funeral. The next jobsworth came along after she died. The headstone had been in place for 25 odd years and had remained level and stable all that time – it had been put in place on a concrete base less than six months after the funeral. New rules dictated it could not be replaced for one year. A year later the nonsense started. The additional wording (basically name and dates) had to be approved and I was asked to prove that it was indeed mum that was buried there (the vicar was helpful with this but could help with little else as the graveyard was under council control). Then they threw a whole lot of regulations at me. A concrete base was no longer acceptable and three foot of concrete foundations were needed with stainless still rods going into the original marble headstone (cue expensive diamond drilling). The reason for this was to stabilise it to prevent injury by it falling if someone climbed on it and fell. I made a suitable robust comment and was told I had the wrong attitude. Anyway all the regulations were complied with and after a few years the headstone tilted to the side! So in conclusion there is no escape and these people will continue to disprove Darwin’s Theory Of Evolution...
