Hi Michael Great Photo of the Zephyr 3 estate, its a version of the big Fords I have never owned. Slightly of topic, I noticed a tag on the photo referring to Austin A95, as you might remember I have a A105 ( think 16v turbo of its day, without the 16 valves or er the turbo) but it had an Austin Healey 100/6 engine (the A95 had a single SU) so quite rapid in its day. Anyway I'm sure the Zephyr was a better pursuit car ,as driving the A105 (and I suspect the A95) in a spirited manner, is the best cure for constipation I have come across. Stay safe all CD

Very good article, I took the time to read the lot reflecting on the "good old days" when "common sense" probably prevailed, my lord look at nowadays everything is jobsworths, political correctness, can't do this, can't do that, over representation of minorities, health and safety gone potty, ban everything....... I'm starting to grumble......Col👹

I was only a kid in the sixties (born 1957) so my memories of the Police cars of the early sixties are a bit hazey and confused. I do remember both MK2 & MK3 Zephyr estate motorway cars but being only young I dont really remember where I saw them. If we went on the motorway it would have been on the way to Leeds (M1 only went as far as Birmingham in those days) So the cars could have been anywhere. The Motorway Police cars I remember were Jags (MK2 or 340 I wouldnt have known the difference then) Of course I remember the Velocette "Noddy Bikes" that would patrol the town and there was always a "plain clothes" back-up car which was a red Corsair (never did see the point of an unmarked Police car that every kid and yobbo in the town knew) The Boddy Bikes were replaced by blue HA Viva vans (nicknamed Fuzz box's)and these were replaced by dark blue MK1 Escort "Panda" cars (they didnt have the daft panda colours but were still called that) The first traffic cars that I had anything to do with were Rover P6 V8s that were introduced in the early seventies. Amazingly these were replaced by Morris Marina TCs (which could quite easily be outrun by a Zephyr 6 or Zodiac)....

I like the bonnet and door alignments, amazing! And honestly believe we restore them to a much higher standard than that of which they came out of the factory.

Hi All, A few things mentioned, a 'noddy' bike, I had one, Velocette LE (apparently stands for Little Engine) 200cc (mark 2) flat twin, water cooled, shaft drive, grey ex Met, nobody wanted it, got it going, was very comfortable, cannot recall what became of it Remember the Motorway Jags, in the early seventies I was in South Wales, local Police used a V12 XJ, which all the drivers hated and always tried to break it, after one rapido response they succeed. Sister had a brand new Marina 1.8 TC Coupe (I much preferred Morris Minors) I dunno if it was the fault of the car, or her now ex husband's booze capacity but it always seemed to be on the wrong side of a hedge, the car disappeared (and so did he!!). Was at a show ,down south, a few years ago, noticed this old chap looking at a Jag, somebody else was on about panel gaps, this chap was just listening, turned out this bloke was an retired bodyshop foreman were they made the things at Brown Lane, he said they just slapped the things together and got them out of the door, the customer got what they got, if they had a problem the dealer was supposed to sort it out.
