Hi everyone Im jamie from rotherham south yorkshire Ive always had lots to do with old fords over the years with my dad, we have rebuilt capris escorts cortinas granadas etc but ive always fancyed a zephyr mk3 but never come across one.....untill the otherday! Went to my mates yard and he had pulled one in! Its a zephyr 4 old B reg 1964 approx i gave £1000 for her and i love her to bits! Got her on our two poster ramp and i couldent belive my eyes - all original with no welding needed anywhere - all original and no crash damage! WOW! she starts but cant select any gears at the moment maybe a stuck clutch on flywheel? The interior is fair but needs the back of the front seat re-covering, headliner needs repaceing and door cards are raggy. Bodywork needs a full fettle with a full respray on the cards for her! Im planning on keeping her original with the original engine and box etc same with the bodywork all original but maybe a change of colour - still blue but not fords olympic blue which it is now! Haha. If anyone has any advice any usable parts for sale what i may need or any views on my new project please post on here and let me know what you all think! Fantastic forum by the way everyone!!!!!

Hi and welcome! She looks quite original and unmessed. Not idea what you budget is but most internal trim, seats/doors/roof, are available from Aldridge Trimming. They are not the cheapest but the quality is excellent. With regard to the roof lining I believe they only supply and fit these days to avoid complaints after people mess it up (not a straightforward job for the unskilled).

Thank you for the reply. Im hoping to repair her on a tight budget and do all of the work myself with my dad as we have done quite alot of old forda over the years. I dont think you can go wrong with using good second hand parts with slight ware here and there looks more original to me. After all i am a scruff always in my work clothes so a mint interior wouldnent last long with me! Haha. If you know of anyone who has any interior parts i would be greatfull if you could let me know. Thank you

Hi and welcome, Looks a great project, the problem with the gears may also be the linkages seized. My first car was a Zephyr 4 in the mid 1970s

I thaught maybe the linkages if not the clutch stuck on flywheel as shes been stood a long while. The petrol pump dosent work either so ive just baught a rebuild kit off ebay £14. Im really looking forward to driving her as ive never drove a zephyr or zodiac before. Ive been on the 'how many left' web page and its only coming up with 28 zephyr mk3's on the road and 13 sorned? This cant be true can it? Surely theres more than that around?

there have been some 107,000 Mk 3 produced of which most are in UK , Australia. I agree ony 25 in UK doesnot seem realsitic because in the Netherlands alone some 20 are still around including mine which i impoterd from UK (so you can deductthis from teh UK numbers)

After standing for long period it could be anything from seized linkages, hydraulic problems or a stuck clutch. I have freed a couple of clutches but will not describe the technique here as it is one of those "don't do this at home" things!

There are cars in the owners club than there are on that site! As far as driving one is concerned if you are used to old Cortinas a Zephyr will have few surprises for you. Imagine a 1200 or 1300 Cortina with an overloaded roofrack and you won't be far wrong! (Actually they should handle fairly well, once you get used to the size and body roll)
