thanks joe. so we start with today's top tip..... ''don't leave your car sitting for years with header wrap fitted''. i thought i'd check what was needed to patch the old headers for now so unwrapped the drivers side. boy they're fu**ed. so i'll be getting new mustang headers to run the season out, then cutting them up and making fenderwells over the winter along with the other modifications. at least it's a start .

new headers arrived yesterday so this evening the plan was fit them and if i got time cut the exhausts back as the new headers are a bit longer in the collector. easy you'd think...... god knows what headers i used back then. i assumed i'd used the ones from the doner mustang and just 'dented' 2 pipes to clear the steering column. so armed with new mustang headers i thought ''do the steering side first as it'll need a little bit of adjusting''. adjusting my arse, that one goes nowhere near fitting, touches everything possible etc etc. to make it worse the n/s fits straight on with no clearance issues at all. so plan 'b' is make the fenderwell headers sooner than planned. i won't have time to make them (from the new almost £300 headers ) in time for an mot before the supernats so that's a bugger still it'll be more what i want long term so i guess it's not all bad. more soon

How was is raised? I remember a car called 'Henry Hi-ride' (I think) that was a Mk II Consul with a similar stance. Cheers... hi michael, the rear is simple, bolt the axle under the springs with new perches welded to the case. the front has the chassis rails (new ones in this case) sat on a mk1/2 granada front crossmember. granada's had a big 'kickup' in the front chassis so when the crossmember's mounted under straight chassis rails like a zephyr the car sits higher. the crossmember was in this case shortened by 5" to tuck the wheels in 2 1/2" each side keeping them under the arches. it's all set to change over the winter with a straight tube axle at the front (like henry hi-rise) on either leaf springs or coilovers and hairpins. the rear will also be remounted on ladderbars and more coilovers. cheers, neil.

If anyone is interested if you Google HenryHirise you will see pictures of the Consul that appeared in Strut Machine in the seventies!

got the new n/s header on this evening. didn't get it hooked up to the exhaust as it was late by the time babysitting duties were over. still it's another job done. oh and here's a pic of the new pertronix 3 dizzy and coil.

well open headers it is then....... somewhere along the line by rebuilding the o/s header it ended up 1/4" shorter so the exhaust doesn't reach. also noticed the reducer that side has rusted thin enough to split 1/2 of the lip away. so f**k it i thought, off with it's zorsts. so supernats won't matter as it's off the trailer and across the show field and hotrod drags definately won't matter so.... i'll make the new zorsts with my flowmaster mufflers when i do the headers, when i do the axle, chassis, steering.......... i've got a busy winter ahead of me it seems.

bit of an update, the auto' gearbox is coming out saturday as it's sold to make way for a 5 speed manual. i'm taking the box to the hotrod drags sunday along with some other bits i've sold. while i'm there i'll be collecting the narrowed 9" rear axle and spindles, steering arms and kingpins for the straight tube front axle i'll be fitting. full steam ahead with the rebuild this winter then, woohoo!

so ford manual boxes are hard to find. also the 351c front sump wants to play in the same space as the straight tube axle, doh! so i've sold the ford engine and a 350 chevy (with a rear sump) is waiting to go in a container stateside. if i can scratch the cash together in time so will a 383 stroker kit (up from 5.7 to 6.3 ltr), a pair of ally heads and a twin turbo kit. should make 5-600hp, which will be a lot of fun with a manual box. speaking of manual boxes the t5 5 speed arrived yesterday for it so that's sorted.
