OK - update time...struggling to get the damn thing to start! Getting a spark on the distributor but we think its the coil that's knackered. Anyone any ideas where to get a coil from? Once it starts I can think about getting it moved to a better location where brakes etc can be worked on. Everything else going OK otherwise!

Nothing special about the coil, just a standard Lucas unit as used on loads of 60s cars so should be readily available.

Dont loose heart! Back to basics.. volts at coil, spark at points.( good spark!),leads ok,spark at plugs, spark at correct plug? Turn her over and time her on No 1 pot, look at the dizzy - see whats going on..... its possible (and i have done it ) shes timed on No 4. If you have changed the coil, points, plugs ( leads??) and are happy - is she getting fuel. Stick with it- Youll get there. Good luck. P.

Didn't mean to sound an arse mate. As IKB says, start with the basics and work your way forward.
If you wanted pick a fine day and i could even pop over and give you a hand. Only 10 mins away.
New coil, set points, fresh fuel, strong battery, she'll fire.
Fingers crossed!

I was driven up the wall with an Anglia my Mum owned - turned out it was an iffy condenser that worked intermittently!

Condensers are the Devils creation and the worse ones are the "brand new" ones that are so cheap to buy but so expensive in time lost when they don't work. I got fed up and. Changed the whole. Lot to Petronix electronic ignition.

Cheers lads - we've found a shed full of parts and apparently the local motor factors has a room full of intermotor parts he cant get rid of. So I've a new coil, dizzy, gonna get new points and condenser from the factors and replace the whole system. Chuck some fresh fuel in from a separate tank and then it should run! I've got my dad and 2 uncles and granddad all helping me out, they know that the old points system is a pain in the arse! I've cleared out granddads shed this morning and listed the parts on a wix site I knocked up a few weeks back phi652.wix.com/mk3-zephyr-4#
