I bought my car in 1989 after spending 5 years trying to.. Owner only agreed to sell it to me after it had been sat in a garden for 4 years.. Obviously it was rotten as a pear and the only parts kept were the roof and both rear quarters.. Every other panel needed to be replaced..I changed the engine straight away for an amcv8 along with auto box and axle from a Volvo 265...it stayed like this for about a year or so... Then I wanted to make it faster so changed the engine for a small block Chevy and tuning parts were more available.. It went from there really... I changed the steering etc for Capri rack and pinion,, axle was changed to ford 9 inch with all aftermarket components,,,, now the car does the quarter mile in 9.4 seconds at a speed of 146 mph... 0-60 is sub 2 seconds..have recently changed to a custom grind camshaft in order to get the full benefit from my nitrous system and am hoping to go quicker this year... This is a proper road going car that returns about 24mpg on a run... Will post some pics shortly.....George

Sounds interesting George, looking forward to seeing the pics Hi George I see this post is from 2012 but what's interesting is 24 mpg from a tuned 350ci Chevy wow that's amazing. I've not got a MK3 yet can't do anything till my divorce is finalised hopefully in 2019 then I'll be on the look out for a Zephyr with the intentions of fitting a 302 small block Ford & C6. If I could get that sort of mileage I'd use it every day, probably better than the stock engine? Watch this space

Changed engine to a big block Chevy a couple of years ago,, it’s now nearly 600 cubic inches. With a far larger carb, 1050 dominator, after a lot of carb work it’s getting 18 mpg. And looking to improve it slightly.
