so after purchasing my Zodiac I went to insure it, turns out it’s an estate, a mk4 or and executive of either. These things always happen to me. The DVLA say it’s a white 1966 Zodiac with a 2553 engine, Has anyone else with a late MK3 had this trouble? Also it apparently has never had an MOT! This is all very worrying and bizarre. I’m not sure what my next move should be. I won’t actually get the car home until tomorrow, hopefully then I can find the chassis number. I feel like such an idiot but when I checked DVLA it all seemed ok. If anyone can give me some advice it would much appreciated.
Thanks

Crumbs!
Presumably the current owner has insured it okay? Think you can look it up on the M.I.D
Suppose as long as the info the DVLA hold is correct and the V5 is in order then there's nothing suspect going on.....the no MOT history thing could just be that it was off the road since before it went computerised,or could it have been imported??
Did the seller give you any backstory on the car?? Is it worth doing one of those car check/hpi type things??
After recent DVLA shennanigans of my own I can report that the chassis number would originally have been stamped on the drivers' side strut top at about 4 o'clock looking from the front of the car.....

I remember when insuring my dads zodiac it was coming up as an estate. So they just entered the actual details manually rather than what the reg bought up.

Thanks for your replies. Yes the first thing I will do is find the chassis number. Also thanks for the M.I.D info i’ll Check that out. The back story as far as I know is only that is was for sale at a classic car dealer in Lymington whom I’d contacted regarding buying the car but didn’t raise the cash in time before it was sold to someone else. They always came across as a reputable business. Before I bought the car I called them to ask if there were any nasties and they said there were none. I will dig deeper as would like to know the history. The first advert said the car was blue and white, not sure where they got the information from as it clearly has no blue on it but, there are some old photos off it and it was blue and white. I’ll keep you posted!

That’s interesting as that is what comes up. They did say they would get back to me Monday but I need it insured before that. One way or another I will sort it.

What company are you using? Well, last night I insured it on line as an estate car with performance direct because it was the cheapest but, have tried to change my current Corvette insurance over to the Zodiac and that is with Lancaster and also have tried Grove and Dean. Lancaster never got back to me and Grove and Dean kept messing around because I had ticked wedding car hire on the search comparison site.

The reason that there is no MOT history is probably something to do with the fact that it is MOT exempt as when I checked my car on line it now comes up with no records. I would be wary about insuring it as an estate no matter what DVLA call it (what does the V5c say it is?)

I used footman James. Give them a call. I think I will as the previous owner tells me that’s who he used. They must have a record of the car and relevant current information. thanks

I won’t see the v5 until 11am when the car arrives, I never thought to look before and I had it in my hand. Interesting about no records isn’t it?

I used to be with Footman James but switched to RH a couple of years ago, due to some cock up or bad service from FJ (can't remember the details though.

A Mk IV Zodiac would have a 3 litre V6. I cannot imagine anybody popping a straight six in because of its length. A few Mk IIIs got V6s back in the day. A guy called Andy ran a very nice lightly customised one.
I have had this issue. When I ran a Carlton Kwik-Fit said they would beat my renewal quote but then insisted it was an estate which it was not. I gave up as the conversation went around in circles. I had a similar thing with my Mk II Escort with one classic insurer telling me my estate was a saloon. What makes it bizarre was both log books were correct!
