There is a Zodiac for sale on eBay, from the front view you can see that the grill is lower on the right hand side as you look at the car. Is this signs of a poor repair in the past? I can’t see that it is just the grill as the lights must be lower as well. Has anybody seen this before or experienced this?

The bonnet and wings seem to line up okay (if not perfectly), it does look as if the grill just isn't screwed on properly but as you say the lights still look fairly central as if they are lower also
The Zodiac grille sits over the top edge of the slam panel so you'd think it'd be pretty obvious the grille isn't attached when you open the bonnet.....
The online MOT checker has no records at all for RNO 719D so it could be it was off the road since before the MOT went computerised in 2005/6ish until the last year or so when the 40 year exemption came in
In the underbonnet shot it looks like some clear waxoyl has been sprayed along the wing joint by the chassis plate to try and hold the rust back, possibly more rust coming through to the top right of the plate next to the bonnet cable?
The inner wings look like they've been blown over as the strut top mount nuts are painted.....and one of the drivers side ones is loose!

Mmmm......... I probably should have read this before I went and bought it. 😂 , however, the car wasn’t too bad bad, the worst spot being the drivers side bonnet hinge plate as usual. But it has had some work done in the past, evident in some old photos. It will make a good driving Reston it’s solid underneath, brake servo needs a gasket something strange going on with the front windscreen chrome on the passenger side, everything needs straightening up and tidying up but, it will definitely do me until I can get an earlier model or a Hooper!! Knowing me though I will fall in love with it after putting so much into it. I can’t wait to bring it to some meets and shows and meet you guys!

That car looks one hell of a better car than mine! We have to remember that these cars were not very well built in the first place maybe built to last 5-10 years at most. Some how 55 years later....... I was wondering what the hose is that looks like it coming out of the rocket box.

Two very good points, I will let you know what the hose is next weekend when I get it home. Must sort the noises tappet out, that’s the first job. Then off for an mot, probably get them to do diff and gearbox oils. I hate not having a workshop, I’m still looking for one!

Crazy, I don’t know why someone would do this given the engine seems good and low mileage. I used to build race engines, I will have to dig into my brain and retrieve some buried knowledge.

From the looks of the engine pictures, a previous owner might have closed off the filler cap breather and moved it to the back of the engine and under it so it doesn't go into the engine bay? I did that in the 1970s when my Zephyr 4 started smoking a bit.

I did that in the 1970s when my Zephyr 4 started smoking a bit. Ah, I see. I had similar thoughts but, this engine doesn’t smoke, from breathers or exhaust. It may be someone had one of these cars previously and was pre-empting the inevitable 😁.
