Hello All,
My name is Doug, 74yo ex motor mechanic, married for 53 years, 4 kids [all have interests in cars] I have recently taken over ownership of an Mk111 Zephyr sedan, 1964, white, with a compliance plate as follows- Prefix ZB5BD ser 101177 model 24112 , with a Hammer stamp and engine no 213E94753. Paint code is AAA Trim A803 314256 [no idea of meaning
This car is in reasonable/ good condition and has been 'sought of in the family ' since new. My older brother picked the new car up on behalf of his employer in april 64, My father, a garage proprietor, 'A' Grade Mechanic, did all the service work on it. When the owner died in 1982, my brother organized the estate auction, and my next brother purchased it Put it in a shed and forgot all about it, and when I asked him for it, he gave it to me
Some early info required; the size of the cup welshplug rear of cyl Head , Is there any other welshplugs? [back of block?]

Hi Doug and welcom Good to hear from some of the "down under" guys (where there are probably more old Zehyrs left than up here) When you speak of welshplug I take it you mean what we call a core plug and the yanks call a freeze plug! (The metal discs that pop out when the engine freezes up) If I get time later on today I will go down the shed and measure up the one in my old spare engine.

G'day and welcome... I have a couple of cousins just outside of Adelaide. One is a Mk III fan but SWMBO liked more modern JapoBores! I have a bit on the various codes but will not be able to delve till the weekend. How about some photos? I imagine she had stood the test of time better than in our damp climate! Cheers, Michael...

Hi again Doug... Just wondering if you are sure of the colour code as all the ones I have seen were either a single letter or two letters (e.g. AZ = Imperial Maroon). My list of codes is limited but I cannot even find AA. Obviously there could be local variation for CKD cars. Cheers, Michael...

Hi Doug,
Near as I can figure Ford used ID plates that closely resembled the early Falcons. My interpretation of the prefix is that it goes like product line/country of origin/assembly plant/month/year, which in your case Z=Zephyr,B=Britain, S=Sydney Homebush assembly plant, B=February and D=1964. I gather Ford used month/year until 1965 when they changed to year/month and the JG prefix system. This is perhaps all up for debate. The triple paint codes refer to roof/painted non-soft interior trim/exterior paint below the glass line A=merino white in 1963 and arctic white in 1964 - so you have a white roof with white bits inside and white body according to that. I don't know if Ford followed through on the interior paint and they may have gone out "as is" from the UK. Mine has been recoloured inside so it doesn't work for me anyway, but the first and last codes match the exterior of my car. Your trim code is the same as mine and Colin on this site kindly told me that A803 means "Rayon Cloth, Seat Face is Blue Saran, and the seat border should be Kingston Blue, Carpets Kingston Blue, all as of August 1963".
