The revised MOT came in about three months ago and I have just had my first experience of it. My X-Type passed but came back with a Minor Fail (which do not mean a failed MOT) and some Advisories. I would have said the Minor Fail was a valid Advisory but question the Advisories. In over 40 years on the road I have never had a fail or advisory on tyres having learnt the importance of good tyres on two wheels. I also replace them well before the legal limit is reached. Depending on how far I drive the axle pair mentioned might need replacing in a few months time. But an advisory?*!
I now think (having seen a friend's MOT last week) that advisories are irrelevant nit picking! Maybe it is all a government scheme to get us all driving new hybrid clone cars?*!
What are your thoughts/experience of this new system?

I also have a deep suspicion that there is a hidden agenda of getting older cars off the road with these ‘revised’ MOT tests, and potentially just getting the numbers of vehicles on the road down, as the hybrid and electric cars are well beyond the reach of average working class people cost wise...

Have to agree with you, especially when you compare a mot exception vehicle against the more rigorous test for a newer vehicle, it will come to a point when the older cars are determined non compliant and only allowed on the roads in daylight hours and limited distances from their registered address which I believe is the case in some EU countries ?

WEll when you get reports and stories on the t'internet stating that there is only 30 years left in Classic cars it does point towards the start of this phasing out a.msn.com/r/2/BBNdBlG?m=en-gb&ocid=News

Anyway, the Classic Car market in this country is worth millions overall to the economy.....WE need to shout louder!!!C.

Have to agree, by all means be aware what is happening but don't fall into the trap of talking yourself into something. A well maintained older car is more friendly to the environment than getting rid of it and building a brand new one ( less carbon footprint ,although you don't hear too much of this term now because it can embarrassing the number of years pay back for some items, 1500 years a for wind turbine, that has a 'planned life' of 25 years, for example) There will be more pressure to accept vehicle leasing rather than ownership, easier to withdraw the cars and recycle. I have never fully accepted the government arguments for not moting older vehicles, they are up to something, remember
' just because your Paranoid it does not mean they are not out to get you'
A good dose of distrust is essential with this crowd in charge.

This bloke sounds like a buffoon but it's more likely that he is being misquoted. Getting rid of old cars because they can't communicate with autonomous cars? What about motorbikes? And bicycles, they won't be able to communicate with them either, or are we going to have autonomous riderless bikes? (Include me out of that one) The whole idea of autonomous cars is ridiculous and the fatality rate is allready unacceptably high (one death and counting). And another thing, as soon as these driverless cars are driving themselves around kids will be playing tricks on them jumping out in front etc etc (at least I would have if they had them when I was a kid)

Hi All, I you're are interested in a self driving car, good news they are already here, its called a 'taxi' or if you fancy a bit of company a 'bus' other options are available!! Being a non-driver as I recover from major surgery I have had to use these options. Taxis, providing they are not Peugeot breadvans, are fine but I hate the ones with company. I find the seats on buses both narrow and lacking in legroom! ThamesUnlinked is as bad and the seats on the new trains are harder!
