put a deposit on a pair of used afr heads coming out of a corvette for the chevy motor. afr heads are one of the best you can buy and at less than half new price i'm well pleased.

the cleveland is now all ready to lift out sunday morning when my mate comes to collect it. so once the money's in my grubby little hands i'll be ordering the stroker/rebuild kit. i've been in touch with the company and i can substitute a more turbo suitable cam kit for the one supplied with the kit. it'll only cost me about £65 extra too going from an off brand cam kit to a lunati one i've chosen from their other listings. just need to get some other stuff sold to order the turbos too and catch john's container by the middle of november.

i ordered the stroker/master rebuild kit last night and substituted a lunati cam kit more suited to the turbo application. that's almost all of the major parts on the way

Any plans to run it at the Pod? Would be cool if it was ready for next year's Classic Ford...

i doubt it'll be done for then, the more i look at the botched welding on the floor and bulkhead (done before i bought it the first time by a 'restorer')the more it bugs me. i'll have to at least cut all the old patches off and do it properly. i may even make up new floorpans etc yet. but to answer your question it will be a street strip car so the pod and shakey will both get some visits once it's done.

well sort of...... i've bought a 2 door mk2 cortina with a 302 small block ford v8 in it. just in from south africa, a never welded mint shell that's a real sleeper. picking it up sunday and i can't wait. oh and i'm also collecting a good chevy 350 and th350 box for the zephyr too which will make our ashley very happy.

so, here we are again. we got some work done over the weekend starting on saturday, ashley brought the car back friday evening so we could get on it today. we swung the 350/350 in, cut the chassis mounts off and then it fitted the hole. first was the long suffering gearbox crossmember, this first modded for an fmx behind the cleveland then again when a c6 replaced it and now again for the th350. it just needed a plate welded to the front with a hole in so that was quickly done, painted and refitted. next the engine mounts..... so some chevys with 'side' motor mounts have the rubber bit on the motor and some have it on the chassis. this 350 had the rubber on the chassis which left us with just a metal bracket on the motor. now if i were keeping it i'd have just solid mounted it, but i knew ashley didn't want that so had to sort an alternative. i know i have a h/d pair of ford 'cotton reel' type mounts somewhere in the garage or shed but could i find them? so i did have a set of cortina poly void bushes so if i had some tube to fit them we'd be on. my homemade solid towbar was slightly too big but close so a couple of chunks were cut from it and after snipping a bit out and closing the cut and rewelding we had outer tubes. i had some offcuts of 4 link bar for legs so with lots of measuring, cutting etc we now have a pair of butch mounts. next we did most of the wiring with just 2 0r 3 left to do. tomorrow we'll fit the mk3 cortina auto shifter and make a suitable linkage before we hook up the exhausts to the down pipes. then we can fire it up before swapping the inlet for a gm hirise dual plane he got at the swapmeet along with a 600 holley. we need to get the prop made up in the week and order a few little bits from real steel but it should be driving next weekend. then sunday went mostly to plan. the wiring's finished, the gear linkage is made, the shifter (early sloping dash mk3 cortina) is in, throttle linkage is done, the propshaft's made and fitted, the fuel line's hooked up and we fired the engine too . we've decided he's going to use the engine as is for now and fit the goody bits, make fenderwell headers and new exhaust at the end of the summer. next weekend we'll hook up the trans cooler lines, fit the radiator and flex fan and reconnect the wiring to the front lights. then i can book an mot and off he goes.

so it drives and changes gear and everything. doesn't get hot, but does leak a little oil from a previous sump bodge. i drove it back to ashley's garage for him (i'm insured, he's not yet) so i can start sorting my garage...... again. so monday i'll order a new chrome sump (cos you can see it), a gearbox filter kit and a kickdown cable as that's frayed and sticking so i disconbubriated it. the 'box sump has a dent but has to come off to fit the kickdown cable so '2 birds with one stone' and service the 'box at the same time. oh, and fit a drain plug too while it's off. ashley can sort a couple of non functioning lights this week after work and hopefully we can get it moted next saturday. but a very productive 3 days with last weekends good start. he's well chuffed, his first proper 'custom car'.
