Hello all, just introducing myself after reading this forum for a while (finally got up the nerve to speak) I own a mark 3 Zephyr 6 1964 which I am currently working on getting back onto the road. It's been laid up for a about 15 years (father owned it then) so I am trying to get it back moving. It's going to be a long term project as the car is at one end of the country and I live at the other although some times I can encourage my father to do some bits to it between my visits. The information I am finding on here is invaluable and I dare say in time I shall have plenty of questions

Hi Joe and Eddie, I'm going to get in trouble with my introductory post as I just figured I'm not actually at one end, so apologies to anyone Scottish as I live in Cumbria and the car is in Cornwall I also forgot to mention I'm a ZZOC member, not that good at these forums yet

That's OK - Scotland is a totally different country - or at least they want to be . I have updated your profile to "Club Member"

Hello and welcome! I did wonder who rolled up their trouser legs! Joking apart good luck with the recommissioning. Is there any serious rust?

Welcome, good to hear of another Z6 in Cornwall, maybe when you are down this way we could meet up, I live in Hayle and have been working on my 6 since I bought it last year, body done, now working on the engine.

Thanks Eddie that's great. I'm quite lucky as there isn't that much rust at all, bit of surface on the body and some small amount at the rear of the sills but nothing scary that I've found yet. It's been a pampered car from 2nd owner on (my grandfather bought it at 6 months old I think) so I guess it's a family heirloom ?. a30cruiser if I lived in Hayle you wouldn't be able to prise me out of Mr B's ? I'll advise when I'm next down and time permitting I reckon catching up would be achievable

With members down that way maybe it's time to think of a Club Day South-West after so long! It feels like twenty years...

We should try to get together for a meet at least, there a very nice Hooper I've seen at a couple of shows and a black Mk3 Z4, I'm not sure how many others there may be, maybe some members would be interested in getting together and showing at the Wheels Event at the Royal Cornwall Showground, it's the biggest event down this way which probably translates to a tiny event by national standards.

I tend to prefer smaller shows as you get more time to take in the cars and avoid overload...

So my original guess of 15 years off the road at the start of the thread was short by half it was actually 29...... The old girl had her first day back on the road at the start of the week, not finished by a long way but usable and legal for the summer, if we get one. The guy who tested her for the MOT was very complimentary which gives a warm and fuzzy feeling.

Congrats at getting it back on the road, at this rate in a few decades time there will loads of them!
The work never stops, this month - new track rod ends, rear dampers, front strut, various bushes, replacement petrol tank (if its any good)and that's just for now, still need to get the gearbox rebuilt and sort a leak in the transmission box. It'll be nice when all I have top worry about is polishing the bloody thing!

They’re not cheap but that’s where I got mine, couple small dents and some storage scratches but almost as good as new. You got to dig around to find the listings though
