Hi all i own a zephyr 4 but the engine is getting a little tired. If i take it out id like to replace it with a v6 or maybe a pinto, but would want to keep the coloumn box. Does anybody know of any bell housings that would marry a v6 to my box?

In theory a Mk1 Transit bell housing will mate a MK3 gearbox to a V6 (the gearboxes are pretty much the same) and the bell housing from a MK 2 Transit with four speed should mate a Pinto. I have never done this as when I fitted a V6 I used a MK4 Zodiac floor change manual. Another possibility would be an early V6 Scimitar as I think they might have used the same box as the straight six Scimitars Another option would be to get a V6 engine and have the belhousing machined to take the MK3 gearbox
If the belhousing does fit you still have the clutch to sort out!

Cheers for the info mate.. Why isnt anything just out and straight back in? Make it so much easier! It was all a lot easier 30 years ago when you could wander around scrapyards with a tape measure with an unlimited suply of engines and boxes to size up!

It may be worth looking around for a Mk IV V6, with a column change, that is being broken, and maybe getting both the engine and the box (with al linkages). The Mk IV I ran was a '71 model but still had column change and to be honest I thought a friend's floor change variant did not improve the change...

I am running a ford C4 box with no issues. I understand all the old C4, C5 and C6 transmissions fit on to a Pinto with the right bell housing. Hope that helps.
