Just to introduce myself. I live in Somerset and have a Zodiac MkIII in midnight blue. The Reg is CDD 720B. It has an automatic gearbox. I have owned this car for about 4 - 5 years. Was originally from Gloucester and had been rebuilt in Brixham although I bought it from Swindon. I also have 3 Austins. An Austin 20 (1936), Austin 18 (1936) and an Austin 16 (1948).

Hi Eric and welcome. I had a similar or even the same problem with my Zodiac. It would accelerate but it wouldn’t stay at a constant speed and when I changed down a gear it just cut out while between gears. This only started after it went in to have the rear oil seal done and they proceeded to strip the engine including removing the head without consulting me. I stripped the carb and bought a rebuild kit. When I stripped the carb I did some rubbish in there. I cleaned it out and replaced everything that can be replaced from the kit. I have always had a flat spot at the very bottom end if anyone knows what that could be. However I have not yet had a chance to completely test the car as I nave just done the fuel pump but so far it seems ok. The problem is it only happened before when I had been driving for about 35 mins. If you do get the rebuild kit make sure you replace the washer on the needle valve, you can’t see it as it looks like part of the valve. You’ll know if you’ve forgotten it because you’ll end up with fuel pouring out! I’ll let you know how mine goes today.
